"Building Well-Rounded Student-Athletes"

"Hey Coach, look at that butterfly!"

All young athletes (especially males) are forced to manage their attention in order to learn the skill, drill, activity, etc. they must execute during the contest. This is primarily due to them being under the influence of one of the most dangerous drugs known to the human race...TESTERONE! In my experience, I have seen the effects of testerone drive the most promising athletes to chase  passing butterflies, dig monstrous craters in the center of the practice field, and or scream to the top of their lungs all for no "apparent" reason. The actual reason this happens is that testerone is an intense energy source that compels its subjects to act.

The Importance of Fundamentals

With the way technology dominates our lives today, a lot of kids rely on video games or television to learn a sport. The problem this creates is these would-be student-athletes start to believe that what they see on the screen is the correct way to perform the act. Over time, these actions become engrained in their behavior and consequently they develop bad-habits and worse practice these habits thinking they are doing things right. Once they reach middle-school or high school, coaches have to spend lots of time “un-teaching” the bad habits that have become so hard to break.
